People’s Climate Movement – New York

The NYC Organizing Table was initiated by the People’s Climate Movement NY, which grew out of the organizing for the historic People’s Climate March in New York City on Sept. 21, 2014. Originally functioning as the Host Committee for that massive mobilization, PCM-NY had a foundation to build from.

In the two and half years since that march PCM-NY focused on efforts to encourage NYC to be in the forefront of policies designed to move off of fossil fuels while building a new and sustainable energy economy. We organized a range of protest events and public forums, have been actively involved in even broader citywide and state-wide coalitions and supported the actions and work of sister organizations.

In the fall of 2016 we decided to focus our energies on the building of the NYC piece of the nationwide campaign developed by the national People’s Climate Movement. Visit the national PCM website for more information.

The NYC Organizing Table for the April 29th March for Climate, Jobs and Justice in Washington, DC. is grounded in several core principles:

  • Seek to strengthen the work of community groups and constituency based organizations as they take up the fight for climate justice.
  • Bring together different parts of our movement to help expand all of our work and bring greater coherence to our common efforts.
  • Pressure policy makers in our city and state to take bold steps toward reducing and eliminating carbon emissions, especially in this era of Trump.
